Casters - the fishing bait connoisseurs choice

The caster is the crysalis of the maggot. I know of many fishermen who will fish with nothing else and are a Roach bait supreme.

Tackle stores will sell them loose or sometimes wrapped up in plastic bags for that days fishing. Because casters are living things they will die if kept in plastic any length of time, so take them out and put them in a bait pot as soon as possible.

Casters can be put into a pot of water to separate out the sinkers from the floaters. Most prefer to fish with the sinkers but occasionally a surface fished caster is a killer.

I would not even contemplate a days fishing for mixed species without taking some of these little gems.
