Fishing for Fun by Fred Cooper

To use the preface from Fred's book "If coarse fishing has a spiritual home then it must be Leigh in Lancashire". This was written in The Sunday Times back in 1972 and was absolutely true at that time as Leigh has produced so many top class anglers who have represented their country at the highest levels.

Freds book - Fishing For Fun, A Personal History of Angling in Leigh is an absolute gem. It harks back to the days when catching huge bags of Roach was almost a foregone conclusion and bulging nets were a daily occurrence. He talks of local waters sadly now gone and regales the reader with some wonderful stories all gleaned from a lifetime in the sport he loves

He mentions some local and international legends such as Benny Ashurst, Kevin Ashurst, Dick Bowker and Barry Smith. This little book is so packed with nostalgia and angling tales you can almost smell the waterside and the wet nets.

You don't have to be from Leigh or even know the area to thoroughly enjoy this book, and all the profits go towards helping local young anglers, so everyone is a winner. If you want to purchase a copy of this book you can ring the author himself, Fred Cooper on 01942 679137
