Izaac Walton - The compleat Angler.
The Compleat Angler Or, the Contemplative Man's Recreation - Izaak Walton
This book is said to be the bible of the sport of angling, and though it was written back in 1653 it is still an interesting and informative read. It isn't so much a "how to fish" type book as we no longer fish with braided horse tail hairs or flax lines, but more a celebration of the joys of Angling.
Originally cast in the form of a dialogue between an experienced angler named Piscator and his pupil Viator, the book details methods for catching, eating, and savoring all varieties of fish. Imagine that today, eating Perch and Roach - but back then they were considered normal fare at the table.
The book really is a joy to read and is not only a joy to hear how coarse and game angling was approached back then but is also a window in time, back to when the pace of life was more peaceful and pastoral.
This is available in e-book format (which is far cheaper than trying to track down a copy !) and is fairly inexpensive
