Hello everyone,
What a fab weekend weather wise. Plenty of anglers took advantage of the great weather conditions and came to fish our banks.
Here is the fishing report for last week.
Main Lake (Pleasure)
A strange week showing some great results and the odd day proving really hard. Neil Hall and David Phillips from Sheffield had a great days fishing on Sunday and recorded bags of over 70lb of fish. Both chaps were using feeder with maggot and worm. Malcolm Gelling from Chorley had another great day on Wednesday when he recorded a nice 60lb bag of fish. Keith Finney, David Bouverek and Ritchie Jennings all recorded 100lb bags of fish during the week. Maggot and worm have been the most successful baits this week. There have been some lovely bream caught this week. I was reading in the Northwest Angler (a great read by the way) that the common or bronze bream as it is sometimes referred to, is a member of the carp family. The current record which was caught from a southern gravel pit, stands at an incredible 18lb 15oz. According to the Northwest Angler anything over 10lb is considered a specimen fish. Well I am delighted to tell you all that the biggest bream that we have had recorded at Pendle View is a 15lb 8oz (verified by our bailiffs).
Main Lake (Carp)
Approximately twenty five carp have been caught this week. They were as follows: 15lb common, 18lb common, 21lb mirror, 18lb 2oz ghostie, 11lb common 14lb common 14lb grass, 10lb common, 13lb common, 12lb mirror, 13lb mirror, 15lb mirror, 17lb mirror, 14lb mirror, 21lb mirror, 9lb common, 18lb common, 12lb common, 18lb 12oz ghostie, 17lb 8 oz common, 14lb mirror, 28lb common, 13lb 8oz common, 12lb mirror, and a 22lb mirror. The biggest carp out last week was the 28lb common which was caught from peg 33/34. Pegs 61/62 33/34 and 56/57 have yielded very well. The most successful baits have been Spicey prawn shrimp, monster crab, and tutti fruitti. I personally feel we are due a really big catch ......so watch this space.
Fly Lake
On the quieter days we have been taking out the canadian weed which has grown this year. This year has been a really bad year for it. Having spoken to quite a few fishery owners I know that we have been very lucky to have kept the fly lake open as some of the other fisheries I have spoken to have had to close. I spoke to a chap yesterday and he said that one of his spots in Yorkshire has been closed for two weeks while they dig out the weed. We had the bailiffs on yesterday doing licence checks and they said that it has been a really difficult season for fly fishing. We are trying our best to keep on top of the weed for you, but it is very difficult with the current weather conditions. We seem to get a deluge of rain and then hot bright weather (excellent growing conditions for the weed). Fishing is hard at the moment because there is so much "natural" food coming from the bugs living on the weed. We are recommending that anglers try dry flies (shrimp or bugs). Averages have been affected this week. I have spent about three days at the fisheries this week and some fly anglers have done quite well and others have found it hard.
Here are the averages for the week.
Monday 4.0
Tuesday 2.5
Wednesday 0.1
Thursday 0.1
Friday 1.
Saturday 1
Sunday 1
GENERAL
The motorway work is nearly completed and the A59 should be back to normal in a week or so. Thank you all for your patience. We have been very busy this week trying to repair the roads right around the site. Again thank you for your patience. Looking after the fisheries is like painting the Forth Bridge (there is always something to do). We are already putting together our list of jobs for the winter.
We are netting the lakes during the autumn October/November time. This will give us an indication of what stock we have in each lake and it will tell us if we need to introduce new fish. This is quite a complex operation which requires us to work with the Environmental Agency and the like.
We are also thinking about having a firework event in November (date yet to be confirmed). I will keep you posted on developments.
Lastly, thank you for all the photies you send me of any significant catches. Can I remind everyone to send them to the Northwest Angler also. If you are doing that bhy email then its
ian@northwestangler.co.uk or by post to Northwest Angler, 11 Butts Court, Butts Street, Leigh, Lancashire, WN7 3AW.
Well folks thats all for now. Hope to see you on the banks sometime.
best wishes
Lin at Pendle View
