Pendle View Fisheries - Trout Lake News
Hello all. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating the team that have been working on the trout lake. Despite the early atrocious weather and the seemingly inevitable mechanical problems, they have completed their project on time. We will be re-opening the trout lake this Saturday - but be warned, we expect it to be busy and there will be quite some residual mud until we have had a few heavy downpours!
For those who want to know, the exercise has been mainly about de-silting, de-weeding and stopping leaks. We found a few new inlets and think we have stopped the leaching under the narrow weir. With the weed and silt that we have removed most parts will be the best part of a foot deeper and the water will generally be about 6 inches higher, so the minimum depth away from the close margins should now be 4 feet or more. We also had to deepen the channel between the top inlet and the narrow overflow to keep the water at bay whilst the rest was attended too. All in all, the better effective depths should be much better for weed control and fish health, so you can all look forward to better sport.
We are restocking, as we speak with many of the fish we removed, some larger fish, which we have brought on and some standard stockies - so the sport should be good. Thank you all for your patience. We look forward to welcoming you back and hope it will be a new fishing experience for you. Just a final reminder to watch your speed on the track and car park and be prepared for more mud than usual. We will get on top of it soon, but we need the famous (and unpredictable) Pendle weather to help us!
Kind regards as usual
Lin
