The Great Maggot Jail Break
I had been fishing all day and it had been a good day with a good catch of Chub and Barbel. The weather had taken a nasty turn for the worse and to be honest I just wanted to get home and get by the fire with a nice drop of something warming.
My seat box doesn't go into the hatchback upright so it has to be put in lying on its side. I must admit that I whizzed everything into the back of the car and drove off hoping it wouldn't be too long before the heater kicked in.
I got home and went through the usual ritual of taking out maggot boxes to put into the shed before taking the tackle into the house. I opened the seat box and found the maggot pot lid had come off and the maggots were just everywhere, I cleaned out the box and thought, ah well the garden birds will have a feast in the morning.
About 2 weeks later I was out for a drive when a bluebottle appeared. I opened the car window and out it went. After about an hour 4 more appeared then it dawned on me - the maggot jailbreak.
It took weeks of driving with the window open in all weathers before the last of them flew out.
As if to remind me of what happened on a permanent basis - one of them got trapped behind the instrument glass on the dashboard.
