Our selection includes lakes for carp, catfish, pike, and all other coarse fish.

We arrange channel crossings by ferry from all the major ports and also by Euro tunnel. We also arrange all your accommodation needs whether it be on the bank side or in nearby self-catering cottages. There is also the option of bivvying up on the bank-side with on-site shower and toilet facilities.

Authon du Perche

The Fishing

They say that pictures can speak a thousand words, and there's never any shortage of pictures from Authon. Hardly a week goes by without an article (or several at the same time!) about Authon appearing in the fishing press. Needless to say it's one of our very top venues, and to stay top it has to produce the right results right through the season for year after year.

The two lakes, just 7 acres each, hold an incredible 4.5 tons of fish in each one, one of the highest stocking levels anywhere. With a light growth of lily pads in the shallows, light silt, and a maximum depth of eight to ten feet by the dams, the two lakes are very similar.

The stock has been built up over the years from the fish-farm stock and with some 800 carp to just under the 50lb mark and 100 catfish to over 110lbs, along with fast growing sturgeon to 50lbs, the figures speak for themselves! The two lakes are typical old estate lakes, very attractive, with tree lined banks. The swims are well spaced and most importantly there are no hotspots, so everyone has the same chance.

As far as possible, all the smaller carp have been removed, and not surprisingly the lakes produce one of the highest catch rates that we know of. The number of anglers is strictly controlled, and access is excellent. The lakes are very professionally managed and very importantly, you are always sure of a warm welcome. English anglers have had great success here for many years.

The Accommodation

Should you be accompanied by family members, or wish to have a home base for the duration of your holiday, there is a very comfortable 6 to 8 berth caravan. It is a very well maintained mobile home with all the appliances you would expect. It is advised that you take all your own bedding. It is situated along the bank side of Lake Cailleaux, if you are booked into lake Autels, then this is still ideal as the two lakes are but a short walk apart [approximately 500 metres].

For your convenience we have arranged it so that there will be no surcharge for electricity or water. On arrival you will also be given five shower tokens on arrival, so if you decide not to go back to the Mobile home for a few days you will still have the luxury of being able to shower. The tokens are also prepaid. If you are after a little extra luxury there is also a ‘Gite Rural’ within a short drive away from the complex. The Gite is a delightful place maintained to a very standard by a very friendly French couple by the names of Mr & Mrs Julier.

(Gite No. 214) Bedding is available at a small surcharge or you can bring your own. The Gite has all modern appliances such as Microwave, oven, fridge/freezer etc. and has a lovely feature fire place. The arrangements are as follows: 2 Double Bedrooms, 2 Single beds, Kitchen, Large living area, Shower/bathroom and a private entrance with patio furniture. (There is also a Bar-b-que for those summer nights). There are other nearby gites available if required.

A choice of very high quality accommodation is available in the surrounding area, and there is also one mobile home on the bank side. The area is also a very good choice for tourist activities, with the famous city of Chartres nearby, and a day trip to the Loire chateaux or even to Paris easily possible from here.

The Locality

In the Village of Authon-du-Perche, just a 5-minute drive away to the southwest of the lakes, you will find all the usual shops, post office & garage including a supermarket where you can buy all your provisions for the week. Also, in Authon-du-Perche, there is a typical French market, which takes place every Tuesday.

If you retrace your route to Nogent-le-Rotrou some 15 minutes to the north you will find an Intermarche supermarket on the N23 ring road, and a large Leclerc supermarket ¸ mile out of the centre of the town in the direction of Margon. Nogent also has a wide range of other shops as well as restaurants. Most of the small villages near to the lakes also have basic shops, and there are several restaurants within a 20-minute drive.
